Five Things You Should Never Ask Your House Cleaner

Ever wonder what is appropriate behavior or appropriate things to ask your house cleaner? Here are few questions you should never ask your house keeper and why:

1. How much do they make (especially if they are working for a company.) Why? Well it is personal information and no one likes to talk about their salary to people they don’t know well. Also if they work for a company many employees can get in trouble for discussing their salary with a client.
2. Their age. Why? Because again it’s a personal question that should not be discussed while working. Also many people do not want to be discriminated against because of their age so it’s never a good question to ask.
3. How many kids do they have.
4. Can they work for you on the side. Many employees are required to sign non-compete agreements when working for an organization and violating a non-compete can be grounds for termination and legal action can be taken. You really are putting an employee’s job in jeopardy and even putting them in a potential legal situation when you ask them to work for you on the side.
5. Can they move furniture. Why? Furniture is heavy and employees can seriously hurt themselves and even damage your property when moving furniture. Also many house cleaners are women and moving furniture is not easy for a female house cleaner working alone.

Hopefully this answers questions you may have been wondering about what is appropriate to ask your house cleaner and what is better left unsaid.
