Give Your Bed A Zen Home Cleaner Touch!

At Zen Home, we take pride in the art of making our client’s bed when performing a Luxury Green Cleaning. How do we make them? There is no secret! Here are the steps to make your bed like a “Zen Home Cleaner!”

Before we start, let’s check all of the linens :

  • Mattress pad with elastic edging
  • Fitted sheet
  • Flat sheet
  • Pillowcases
  • Blanket (lightweight or heavyweight, depending on your climate and the season)
  • Quilt, comforter or duvet
  • 2 standard pillow shams

And a few optional additions:

  • 2 European pillow shams
  • Accent pillows
  • Throw or coverlet
  • Bed skirt or box-spring cover

Although, you can be creative with the style of your room and your bed and make your own list of needed linens. Now we can start with the first step:

1.Hit them with an IRON!

Not literally, prepare yourself a work surface with large table top, or a sheet of plywood with heatproof foam or batting that you would find comfortable ironing the linens. Would you like your linens to be crisp and behaving? Iron them, iron them all, including the bed skirts and shams.

2. Let the BEDSKIRT in.

Be a bit precise with the skirt and place it at the center, where all the edges are even at the foot and sides. The skirt might move when we move on to other steps, so unobtrusive pins should be there for the rescue.  If your bed style doesn’t require a skirt, you can skip this step. If your bed’s box-spring is exposed, we would like to recommend a box-spring cover.

3. MATTRESS PAD, be smooth.

This layer loves to have a mind of his own and bunch into the center of the bed, how uncomfortable would it be. A few tips to secure them include elastic edges, safety pins, or corner fasteners.

4.Tuck the FITTED SHEET.

Be well aware of your mattress size, including the height to check out the optimal fit sheet. Sometimes a standard size (twins, double, queen, kind, etc.) works perfectly. In case of a pillow top or tall mattress, get an extra-deep sheet. Tuck it tightly around the corners of the mattress and got the corner fasteners to keep both the pad and the sheet in place.

5. Two Needs of the FLAT SHEET.
Two keys to remember about this step are the sides and the top edge. Both sides of the sheet need to equal to each other, the top edge aligns with the mattress’ top edge, while the sheet itself sits perfectly in the center.

6. BLANKET.
After placing the blanket on top of the bed, align its side edges with the mattress as even as possible. Place it flat and check how it fits several times for the perfect even, pull it down from the top of the mattress if your blanket is slightly shorter than the sheet. You may do this step quickly as we will adjust the blanket later with the flat sheet. The blanket mini-series is coming, stay tuned!

7. Join the FLAT SHEET and the BLANKET.
This step could be a bit time consuming. Let’s keep it as simple as possible:

  • Hold the long edges of both flat sheet and blanket
  • Hold them away from your bed
  • Pull them atop the mattress
  • Lift the foot of the mattress
  • Slide and tuck them together beneath the mattress
  • Check
  • Make hospital corners and surface as smooth as possible

We don’t want the “princess and the pea” effect. But don’t sweat if it’s not perfect. Do your best!

8. Turn FLAT SHEET and BLANKET TOPS down.
Leave space for the pillows by folding them down about 12 to 18 inches then tucking the long edges under the mattress along the sides. Now we are done with the blanket.

9. Add TOPPER.
Topper is up to your style whether it is a cozy quilt, a puffy comforter or a downy duvet.

  • Spread it over the bed
  • Place it in the center
  • Let the sides hangs evenly except the top
  • Cover bottom edges of the flat sheet and blanket
  • Leave their folded-down top edges shown

10. Get comfy with PILLOWS & THROWS.
You know your most favorite pillows. Let them be in the case you love and fluff them up. Position them against the headboard or wall.  Extra items like European shams, and standard-size shams come next in front of the pillows.
If you would love more on the bed, place a couple of throw and bolster pillows.

Bonus: Coverlet can add a nice last touch like how a hotel bed looks when you first walk in your room.  Fold about 18 to 24 inches across, and place it at the foot of the bed. Or roll it, however you like.

Now bounce a quarter like in the movies.
